Malawi is a small country in East Africa named after Marawi people.who migrated into that regain in 13th century. Tea is the second largest export. Mulanje is the largest growing district. Tea grows in the foothills of Mt. Mulanje (elevation 10.000’)
Malawi lies within the Great African Rift Valley.The elevation is 3000 ‘ to 9000’above sea level with Lake Malawi along the western border.Nutrient rich soil, tropical climate and high elevation
are the components of some of the best teas produced . Although Malawi teas are not known as single estate teas, yet are essential in many tea blends. Most of the estates are owned by foreign companies . Teas are exported to Europe where many of the famous blends are produced. Ireland is one of the major importers of African teas.
